Drip Drop

Umbrellas

We now stock Drip Drop umbrellas at the Leopold Hotel Sheffield! You can rent an umbrella at the hotel for 48 hours for just £2.

Drip drop umbrellas are eco-friendly and made from sustainable materials and best of all they plant a tree for every umbrella rented!

In just our first month there has been 37 trees planted from our guests contribution to drip drop.

Sheffield

Clean Air Zone

We are very proud to be able to say that Sheffield has a clean air zone. A clean air zone is an area that aims to reduce pollution from vehicles by charging vehicles for driving in that designated area.

This is a class C chargeable Clean Air Zone for the most polluting heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), light goods vehicles (LGVs), vans, buses, coaches and taxis.

Private passenger cars and motorbikes will not be charged.

Leopold

Our building

We only purchase 100% renewable energy for the hotel as a whole. The hotel is also, 100% LED lit. As this is a historic building it is not newly built with an impact on the environment unlike most chain competitor hotels. We also have an area that our guests can use to store bikes and they can be also be secured to our fencing in Leopold Square.

Local

Our Suppliers

We always try to promote guests use of local partnerships to drive business to the local community. We have a partnership restaurant scheme here where Leopold guests get special privileges’ in local restaurants in partnership with us. Along with this we promote local car parking providers and dry cleaners to our guests. We try to promote local attractions and activity providers to our guests, especially independent ones such as Hagg Lane Alpaca Walking and Ringinglow Archery. We also stock Sheffield Gin in our bar which is locally produced.

Contact

Guest Communication

We share our green journey information and discussions included on all corporate show arounds, we also keep our guests up to date on all sustainability programmes on our meetings agents.

On our post stay emails we ask about how important is Green to our customers and does it influence their decision on where they stay and is there anything that we could introduce following any recommendations from guests.

Get there

Transportation

We try to encourage minimalised use of transportation in the hotel so we offer complimentary bike secure storage and promote the use of the local supertram in guest stay packages.

We also take in guest luggage when arriving on early trains before check-in is possible, this assists many of our London based corporates massively and avoids them having to take luggage to work offices.

Planning

Operations

In terms of operations within the hotel, we have implemented initiatives to reduce waste. We have recycling stations for all departments in place. Single use plastics have been minimised with paper straws, glasses in bedrooms and guest water in glass bottles. The bins in guest bedrooms have recycling inserts so that we can dispose of all items correctly. We provide recycled note paper in meeting rooms for delegate use and note pads are removed from all bedrooms to avoid waste. There is a one pillow option in place for sole occupants. We have set up a scheme which offers guests a drink in lieu of their room been serviced daily to decrease our use of linen, chemicals and water.

Daily

Maintenance and Cleaning

We always try to reduce overuse of chemicals in our daily maintenance and cleaning activities where possible. We use Eco-friendly cleaning products throughout the hotel. There is Signage in all bedrooms to encourage our guests to re-use linen and towels on multiple night stays. We have multiple use toiletries in all bedrooms and all individual stock items donated for local charity causes. We also have upgraded our air conditioning to positively impact on energy consumption and motion censored lighting in all hallways.

Team

Our People

We understand the importance of training and development so we are continuously providing training for our staff where necessary. We provide online training to all staff members plus in person training across department teams. We also have a Green Team that shares best practices and ideas that we can all implement.

Some More Initiatives

Charity Events

We support local charities by gifting any pre-used hotel items such as beds and mattresses when refurbishing. We have also donated all single use toiletries to key corporates that support various local charities e.g. HSBC and Aviva.

Community Work

For the past four years we have done annual work with local secondary schools taking groups on show arounds of the various hotel departments providing an insight into careers. We also do a questions and answers session with details on hotel functionalise.

Growing Our Own

We are so excited to install some external storage facilities plus a new ‘living roof’ with bee bomb flowers, herbs and so much more.

Other Initiatives

We provide eco-friendly multiple use bags for all guests attending in-house corporate events. Staff are also provided with eco-friendly multiple use bags for personal use.
