SHeffield University
Built in 1905, the University of Sheffield is not just a symbol of the city’s culture of excellence but is ranked as one of the top 100 universities in the world. Home to over 30,000 students it features some stunning architecture with the award-winning Diamond building and Arts Towers situated on its main campus.
The main campus of the university can be up to a 15-minute walk or a quick 8-minute journey on either the Blue or Yellow tram, just two stops from City Hall stop.
Pond's forge
Located near to the Sheffield railway station, Pond’s Forge International Sports Centre is a premier leisure facility. Containing an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a 10-court sports hall and a spacious well-equipped gym.
A 10-minute walk from the Leopold Hotel and just outside the city centre, you will find the Pond’s Forge International Sports Centre opposite the Park Square. With public transport, it is just 3 stops on the tram from the City Hall stop.
Crucible theatre
Known for hosting the prestigious snooker World Championships, the Crucible Theatre has been a cultural landmark since its opening in 1971. Also recognised as the largest regional theatre complex outside London, the Crucible holds a wide range of diverse shows, from classical plays to modern dramas.
The Crucible Theatre is only a 5-minute stroll away and located directly next to the iconic Lyceum Theatre.
Millennium Art Gallery
An incredible exhibition showcasing the best art and design in the region. Dive deep into Sheffield’s history with their Metalwork Collection displaying over 800 examples of cutlery which put the city on the map. Stop by the Craft & Design Gallery and the Ruskin Collection. Indulge with some homely food in the café and pick up a souvenir from the gallery shop.
Located behind the Lyceum Theatre, the Millennium Gallery is just a 10-minute walk or a 6-minute tram ride from the Leopold Hotel.
Kelham Island
A manmade island on the River Don, which was once Sheffield’s industrial centre, is now home to a vibrant neighbourhood sprawling with restaurants, pubs and cafés. There are a host of tours every day from guided walks around the island to the luxurious Bullion Chocolate tour.
Residing on the River Don, Kelham Island is a 15–20-minute walk or a 10-minute tram ride from City Hall to Shalesmoor.
Sheffield botanic gardens
Opened in 1836, the Sheffield Botanic Gardens are a Grade II historical site boasting over 5,000 species of plants. Along with a host of beautifully restored Victorian Glass Pavilions containing Tropical plant collections, sculptures and a bear pit.
Located 1.5 miles from the front steps of the Leopold Hotel, the Botanical Gardens can take just over 30-minutes to walk or a 20-minute bus ride.
Olympic Legacy Park
Located in Sheffield’s east end lies the Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, boasting an Advance Wellbeing Research Centre as well as a beautiful 35-acre park brimming with sporting facilities. Developed after the 2012 London Olympics it is the only Olympic legacy project outside of London.
The Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park is 2.5 miles away in Attercliffe and can be best accessed through the tram line in a journey totalling 20 minutes.
Lyceum Theatre, Sheffield
Tudor Square
A five-minute walk from the hotel. The Lyceum Theatre is a 1068 seat theatre in the city of Sheffield, England. Built in 1897 the Lyceum is the only surviving theatre outside of London and the last example of an Edwardian auditorium in Sheffield.
Utilita Arena Sheffield
Utilita Arena Sheffield is situated near the city centre. It is used for big name concerts and sporting events. It is home to the Sheffield Steelers Ice Hockey Club.
Ecclesall Road
Known as Sheffield’s “Golden Mile” Ecclesall Road has nearly 400 businesses in a 1 and a half mile stretch from the City Centre to suburban Banner Cross. There is a fantastic mix of independent shops and high street names. Great for a fun day out.
