Sightseeing in Sheffield – Your Essential Guide

Architecture

If you are interested in architecture you can check out Sheffield’s oldest building which is still in daily use, Sheffield Cathedral. The cathedral is less than five minutes’ walk from our hotel and you do not have to be religious to appreciate the beauty of the building and the heritage that comes with it. Over 1000 years old, the church is still an active part of the community and their new Heritage Interpretation Centre encourages everyone to learn more about the history of the Church and of Sheffield.

Nature

Get back to nature and visit the stunning Sheffield Botanical Gardens. Less than 10 minutes driving from us, the gardens are high up on the list of recommended things to do when visiting Sheffield. The gardens are divided into themed areas, from the formal Victorian Gardens to the less formal Woodland area. Home to an impressive 5000+ species of plant on 19 acres of land, the gardens are open every day and entry is always free.

Gallery

Visit the home of Art, Craft and Design in the heart of Sheffield, The Millennium Gallery. The museum hosts a variety of art mediums including a sample of the metalwork that gave the city its reputation as the Steel City. There are a mixture of permanent displays and temporary exhibitions on show at all times. We are lucky the museum is so close to us, only a five-minutes’ walk away and entry is free. The Millennium Gallery also offers art and drawing classes as well as informative talks and family-friendly events.

Museum

Located on a 900-year old man-made island, Kelham Island Museum is just 15-minutes’ walk from us and definitely worth the journey. It is home to fascinating artifacts and pictures showing Sheffield’s rise from light industry to heavy metal mass production from the Victorian era and through two World Wars. The museum is in the top ten recommended things to do in Sheffield and it is not hard to see why.

Our team at Leopold Sheffield are always happy to help with transport and directions to these attractions and anything else you want to see in our wonderful city.
