Summer in Sheffield

Summer is the perfect time to explore Sheffield. Don’t worry about packing layers or keeping warm. Just pop on some sunscreen and enjoy the bright days and long evenings that summer brings. If you’ve booked your stay in Leopold Hotel Sheffield, start planning a fun-filled break in the city with our handy guide to summer in Sheffield. If you haven’t booked yet, what are you waiting for?

Explore The Peak District

Take the long way getting to Sheffield or drive 30-minutes from the city and explore the stunning Peak District. The Peak District is one of the UK’s most visited national parks spanning around 555 square miles. The scenic countryside is waiting to be discovered with amazing views, guided tours, cycle trails, horse riding and more. With lots of walks, outdoor activities, country estates and quaint little towns, the list of things that you could do out there is endless. Discover the local scenery and wildlife, taking a picnic with you to enjoy al fresco.  You can get to the peaks by road, bus or train.

Enjoy The Winter Gardens

One of the largest temperate glasshouses to be built in the UK during the last hundred years is located on our doorstep in Sheffield. Winter Garden is the largest urban glasshouse anywhere in Europe. The building itself is 70 metres long, 22 metres high and home to more than 2500 plants from all around the world. You can learn more about the greenhouse and its occupants from the friendly guides or the signs dotted around the greenhouse. It’s the perfect oasis in the city, with direct access from Millennium Gallery, Millennium Square and Tudor Square. It’s a truly unique experience for visitors and something that should be on every Sheffield bucket list.

Visit The Millennium Galleries

We all know the typical UK weather is not exactly all blue skies and sunshine. If you get caught in a summer shower, pop into Millennium Galleries and enjoy some cultural education. Sheffield has always been a city of makers and one of the highlights of the Millennium Galleries is a world-class metalwork collection. The Ruskin Gallery exhibits a series of objects from John Ruskin’s collection, an English writer, philosopher and art critic of the Victorian era. The Museum has programmes and collections that are of interest to all ages and cultures and it’s a great way to spend a rainy afternoon.

Summer Events in Sheffield

Events are finally back, and this year promises to be bigger and better than ever. Bassfest Summer Festival 2022 is coming to Sheffield on the 16th & 17th of July and will be their biggest line-up ever. Held in the famous Don Valley Bowl in the northwest of the city, this open-air event brings a huge range of DJ and live acts from the worlds of drum n bass, house, bassline, and beyond.

Tramlines Festival also returns to Sheffield from 22nd to 24th of July. It takes place at Hillsborough Park, just a few miles Northwest of Sheffield City Centre and a short drive from Leopold Hotel Sheffield. Expect an amazing line-up with bands and artists across four stages, plus comedy, a pop-up cinema and a dedicated family area. The food and drink area has a wide selection of cuisines and something for everyone. This year’s headliners include Sam Fender, Kasabian, Madness, The Wombats, The Vaccines, Becky Hill, Kelis, Bad Boy Chiller Crew, Declan McKenna, Jade Bird, Reverend & The Makers Self Esteem and more. In the comedy tent you will find Seann Walsh, Russell Kane, Jason Manford and more.

Enjoy Graves Park

Graves Park is located on Hemsworth Road, about 15-minutes drive from Leopold Hotel Sheffield. It’s one of the largest parks in the area with lots to see and do on a summer day. Children will love the on-site farm where they can visit, pet and learn about the animals. The park has a golf course, two bowling greens and several tennis courts. There is a large play area next to the cafe with a sandpit, toddler equipment, climbing frames, zip wire, swings and more. Bring a picnic and make sure to leave some crumbs for the ducks lounging in the lakes.
