Snooker Championship in Crucible Theatre

The UK excels at many sports. Our football leagues are some of the best in the world, we have fantastic rugby and cricket scores and Team GB outdo themselves every four years at the Olympic games. Snooker is a game of skill and strategy which we Brits not only invented, but perfected. It was created by a British Officer stationed in India in 1875 and has been a popular pastime in pubs and venues around the UK since then. Snooker originated as an English sport but has grown in popularity in many countries including Ireland, Scotland and Australia. The World Snooker Championship takes place every year in the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield in April.

World Snooker Championship

One of the most popular events in Sheffield each year are the World Snooker Championships. This year, for the 47th consecutive year, the famous competition will be held at the Crucible Theatre from 15 April to 1 May 2023. The 980-seater Crucible theatre has a contract to host the Betfred World Snooker Championship action until 2027 which will mark the 100th anniversary of the first-ever event. The prizes are substantial for this live, televised event. First place takes home £100,000, runner-up takes £40,000, semi-finalist brings home £20,000 and quarter-finalist a respectable £12,500. We expect to see all of the big names in snooker making an appearance at this prestigious event, fighting for the title of overall winner for 2023.
The 2023 Cazoo World Snooker Championship is a fully accessible event. Tickets are highly sought after, and early registration is highly advised.
