Originally built in 1897, the Lyceum Theatre sits on a site with a long theatrical history. Earlier venues included a theatre owned by Dan Leno, which later burned down, and the short-lived City Theatre. The current Lyceum, designed by W.G.R. Sprague, is the only surviving example of his work outside London and the last Edwardian auditorium in Sheffield. Despite facing demolition and several ownership changes, it was fully restored with support from Sheffield City Council.
